Deb Ajango has presented nationally and internationally on the topic of risk management, emergency action planning, and wilderness medicine. She has been internationally recognized for her innovation and service to risk and safety management in outdoor and experiential education programs.
She received her MS degree in clinical psychology and education from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. She has spent three decades studying the brain, with a specific focus on how cognitive function is affected by pressure. Deb has authored two books on safety education and risk management, both of which continue to be widely used as textbooks in universities and colleges. Deb is Owner and Director of SafetyEd, a company that provides safety education internationally. She provides accident prevention training as well as crisis response strategies for organisations and schools across the USA and internationally. Deb currently teaches at Alaska Pacific University in the Outdoor Studies department.
Director of Risk Resolve
Clare Dallat is the Director of Risk Resolve and has a PhD in Human Factors (Accident Prediction), an MSc. in Risk, Crisis and Disaster Management, and a Graduate Certificate in Transformational Leadership in Education. She has over twenty-five years of professional experience in outdoor education – across multiple organisational hierarchies – from instructor, coordinator, risk manager, executive director, and Board member. Clare has supported organisations across the world to enhance, test and refine their critical incidents response plans. More recently, this has included how to establish an effective remote/ online response plan. She has worked on complex risk and safety management projects with partner schools, organisations, governments and regulators across Australia, North America, the Middle East, Southeast Asia, and Europe.

A former journalist, Sonia Zavesky is a highly experienced media and crisis skills trainer, working with clients in the corporate, government, business and community sectors. Sonia is also experienced at handling communications on behalf of an organisation, following her three years as Director of Communication for a global not for profit organisation. While located at the international head office in The Netherlands, Sonia gained a wealth of experience in managing a controversial global brand and dealing with international media. Before becoming a media trainer, Sonia spent almost ten years as a news and current affairs journalist with the ABC, where she was a guest presenter of several programs, a parliamentary reporter, and later a correspondent based in Prague. On her return to Australia, Sonia was the Executive Producer of ABC Radio News in Sydney.

Research shows that 85% of us will experience a cognitive deficit in our response to a critical incident. This data, coupled with the reality that it is not solely the incident itself that will determine the short, medium and long term outcomes of serious and critical incidents. It is how those involved – the people directly impacted, as well as those situated at the peripheral of organisations (staff/ families/ other clients/funders etc), and the wider public – feel they have been supported and cared for. In short, to optimally care for all those impacted in a critical incident, the organisation must have adequately planned well before it happens.
