QUARTERLY UPDATE

JANUARY 2025

NatCORR is kicking off the year in full steam, preparing for the Weather Ready Workshops in April, working hard on the exciting development of the digital tool ORI (Outdoor Risk Intelligence), and planning for the National Outdoor Risk and Resilience Symposium on July 9 in Canberra. We highly recommend some diary planning to make the most of these valuable professional development opportunities.

We were delighted to close 2024 with such strong NatCORR engagement at the National Outdoor Education Conference in Gippsland in December. Dr Jeff Jackson’s keynote on building an organisational safety culture was extremely well received. The feedback from the Organisational Resilience pre-conference workshop was also excellent. It is heartwarming to bringing our community together with international expertise to enhance our collective readiness for the impact of climate change on the outdoors sector. Unfortunately, every Australian summer brings us more lived experience of bushfires, heat and extreme storms. Let’s continue to collaborate to do what we can to prepare to manage these scenarios as best that we can – so that we can all continue to enjoy the outdoors.

Outdoor Risk Intelligence

We recently had a sneak-peek at our, soon to be released, ORI TRACK app, and were thrilled to see how far things have come! ORI TRACK will take your field incident management to the next level, underpinned by AI-driven analysis and predictive insights for informed decision-making at an organisational level. NOEC and Organisational Resilience Workshop

December 4 was a big day with our pre-conference Organisational Resilience Workshop presented by the three Doctors – Loren Miller, Jeff Jackson and Clare Dallat, followed by the opening of the National Outdoor Education Conference 2024 at Federation University’s Churchill Campus.

During the conference Jeff gave a wonderful Keynote Presentation on Organisational Safety Culture, and the NatCORR team ran two well attended presentations throughout NOEC. With close to 600 people in attendance, it was a conference well worth attending and spreading the word about the important work we are doing at NatCORR.

WILDFIRE SMOKE IMPACTS

NatCORR friend and colleague, Stuart Slay shared this recent article about the impacts of wildfire smoke written by the Stanford Woods Institute for the Environment. This easy read touches on those with a duty of care for others outdoors are using air quality data to inform decision making and absolutely applicable in an Australian context.
