QUARTERLY UPDATE

JUNE 2024

We are excited to share some news regarding projects that have been simmering away in the NatCORR space that will now be fully realised.

Firstly, our Outdoor Risk Intelligence Project (ORI) will be ready for 2025 deployment. This project addresses two key areas of concern for the outdoor sector:

Heat stress forecasting and management in an outdoor context will be greatly enhanced by ORI Heat. This tool will develop a heat risk rating score – with hourly risk forecasts for 72 hours, and projections up to 7 days. This will be a game changer in the outdoor risk management space.
Incident and Business Disruption Reporting and Analysis will be able to be captured by ORI Track which is an AI interfaced tool for organisations to track and review information on outdoor risk incidents and business continuity disruption, overlayed with weather and environmental conditions. We are also looking at the potential for the tool to provide process and template support for incident response.

We are delighted to welcome Greg Stagbouer to the NatCORR Team. He will be managing the Outdoor Risk Intelligence Project, bringing his diverse skillset and experience to this important piece of work.

Finally, we have started planning for a NatCORR Symposium in Canberra in July 2025. This will be an opportunity to share professional development and resources from NatCORR and outdoor risk experts with the Australian outdoor sector. We will keep you updated as our planning progresses.

Weather Survey Results Webinar

Our National Outdoor Sector Weather Survey closed on February 29. Since then, we have been analysing the results and creating an in-depth presentation pack of this data.

Dr Jeff Jackson at NOEC24

NatCORR is excited to be sponsoring internationally renowned outdoor risk and safety culture expert, Dr Jeff Jackson as a Keynote Speaker at the National Outdoor Education Conference. Dr Jackson will focus on why finding what we do right in our business practices has a far greater predictive value on safety performance than the things we do wrong.

Also, keep your eye out for more information about the two NatCORR presentations at the National Outdoor Education Conference which takes place at Federation University in Gippsland Victoria from December 4-6, 2024.

Pre-NOEC24 Workshop

Dr Jeff Jackson will also be co-presenting a pre-NOEC24 workshop on Organisational Resilience alongside Dr Loren Miller and Dr Clare Dallat. The workshop will cover:

Financial management for disaster resilience

Organisational culture and structure
Planning, processes and risk management

This workshop is ideally suited to outdoor business owners and managers, school leaders, and those with budget and/or organisational responsibilities.

SPOTLIGHT ON

A warm welcome to our new NatCORR Advisory Board Member, Vicki Heinrich. During her career she has been fortunate in working for the Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) where her professional life aided the development of a passion for applying evidence-based psychological research to improve forecast comprehension, warning messages, weather decision-making, community education and human safety. We look forward to tapping into her extensive experience!
