Summits & Conferences!

NatCORR had a presence at the innovative & informative Outdoors NSW & ACT Summit in June. Loren Miller did a short NatCORR presentation as part of the Summit & we were able to make many new & valuable connections.

Ben Lovell did online presentations for both SkillsIQ at their NSW ITAB Forum, and for the Climate Change Education Network.

Loren Miller & Ben Lovell also presented on both days of the Outdoors Victoria Conference. Their feedback from this event was that there is absolutely a need & an appetite or what NatCORR is offering!

Loren was invited to present on behalf of NatCORR as part of the National Sports & Environment Conference in Melbourne at the end of July.

NatCORR team also attended the Severe Weather Impact Prediction webinar- a collaboration between Natural Hazards Reasearch Australia, Geoscience Australia & the Bureau of Meteorology.

Outward Bound Co-Chair, Jess Bulger, attended the inaugural National Indigenous Disaster Resilience Summit  & the NatCORR Team also had a presence at the recent Australian Disaster Resilience Conference in Brisbane.

SPOTLIGHT ON

NOBURN is an exciting national citizen science project that is helping us predict bushfires. Around the country, you can support NOBURN by recording fuel hazards with nothing more than a smartphone.

The NOBURN app allows us to gauge the risk of fire from citizen photo uploads and descriptions. Information supplied by concerned citizens helps researchers understand the structure, quantity, density, and dryness of forest fuels. This information allows a better prediction of the likelihood, severity, and extent of potential fires.

By recording forest evidence with the NOBURN app, you and anyone in Australia can provide a unique, time-stamped and geo-referenced data recording, allowing scientists to understand bushfires better. You can, with NOBURN, directly assist with Australia’s disaster resilience, preparedness and response to bushfires. You will be part of the solution!

Incident Response Workshops

What’s Coming Next?

We are underway with two bodies of work that will be invaluable as we move into an El Nino weather pattern with a Positive Indian Ocean Dipole.

One is around Heat Management in the outdoors and the other is focused on Weather Forecasting, Interpretation & Decision Making. We will keep you updated as these projects evolve.

We are looking at our next Professional Development offering being held in 2024.
